Get married at the Mob Museum and toss a bouquet of Gaia Flowers!

Wreath of White wedding centerpiece by Gaia Flowers

In case you didn’t see it on TV or read it in the news, the Mob Museum teamed up with Vegas.com to offer a cool Valentine’s Day/Grand Opening event called Married at the Mob Museum… and they graciously invited Gaia to participate!

A contest that runs through Jan. 31 will pick seven lucky couples to get married or renew their vows at the Mob Museum on Valentine’s Day, which also happens to be the day city officials will cut the ribbon on the latest downtown cultural venue.

Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman will officiate the ceremonies, and the winning couples will be the first public visitors to go inside the museum. They will also get air travel to Las Vegas, two nights at the El Cortez Hotel, flowers by yours truly, photos and a champagne brunch.

Sound fun? Enter to win here.

Yes! We have not moved

We’ve received a few panicked calls and e-mails from downtown friends who, driving down Charleston, noticed an empty building in the space under our sign at 4 E. Charleston.

Do not despair, Gaia fans! We’re still right where we’ve been since 2009… sort of. On Jan. 1, we consolidated our flower and gift shop, and design studio in the space at 6 E. Charleston, which we used to occupy in addition to the space next door, at No. 4. (The sign will soon follow!)

This is a great move, mainly because it makes way for art studios/galleries that will be opening on either side of us at No. 4 and No. 8. We are super excited that our new neighbors are bringing more art to the Arts District and livening up the south side of Charleston between Main and Casino Center.

It also allows us to keep delivering the beautiful, eco-friendly floral arrangements in locally handmade vases and pots for which you’ve grown to know and love Gaia. Over the last two and a half years, we realized we didn’t need 3,000 square feet to give you what you want from us: high-quality, socially responsible products at great prices.

Stop by and see our new (old) digs, say hello to Gary and Peter, and grab a bouquet today. Don’t worry: We’re not going anywhere!

Gaia’s got gift!

Let the holiday decorating begin!

At Gaia, we love Thanksgiving, Chinese New Year and everything in between.

For this holiday season, we’ve stocked up on new gifts — all handmade by local artists, as usual. In our store, you can find bath and body products, cards, jewelry, tea and woven goods, along with a vast selection of pottery. And that’s not to mention the gorgeous art that adorns our walls (and is for sale!).

Of course, our specialty is plants and flowers. We have poinsettias and wreaths, available in both eco-friendly and conventional versions, along with centerpieces and floral arrangements. Prices of our seasonal selection vary from $14.99 to $89.99, and all are available for delivery anywhere in the greater metropolitan area. Order online here.

If you’re on your way to dinner or a party, stop by and pick something from our cooler, or have Gary make you a custom bouquet. Feel free to call ahead and make sure we have what you want, at (702) 997-0222.

Make someone’s holiday happy, and make Mother Earth proud!

Gaia welcomes musical guest for First Friday

Konner Fleming

Konner Fleming

This First Friday, Nov. 4, Gaia hosts singer-song writer Konner Mary Fleming for her first performance in Las Vegas.

Originally from Washington State, Konner has lived here for about a year. She sings in a style influenced by both classic rock and folk rock, drawing inspiration from The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, Janis Joplin and many others. Konner’s first album is currently in production, with plans to release it at the end of the year. At Gaia, she’ll perform both covers and original work.

Stop by for one of her two, half-hour sets, beginning at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. We’ll have limited seating and refreshments for those staying to enjoy the soulful voice of this talented songstress.

Cruder-Jones wedding gives Gaia a chance to shine

Anyone who knows Jana Cruder and Aeon Jones knows they forge their own path, rarely doing things the way others do. For their wedding last month, the creative pair of free spirits chose the fitting setting of Zion National Park.

Gaia was honored to do the flowers for our friends and neighbors (from SPACE) of the last two years. And the occasion provided our first opportunity to contribute to a wedding in a national park. It was a uniquely wonderful experience – for everyone who was there, we dare say.

As a professional photographer and creative director, Jana was clear about what she wanted from us: Eco-friendly cut flowers, sustainable succulents and locally harvested wildflowers in Earthy tones – all to reflect the wild natural beauty of our surroundings at Zion.

Enjoy the photos by Amy Hummel and Natasha Williams of Photo Love Stories, and if you’d like flowers as beautiful as these for your own happy event, give us a call at 702-997-0222, or e-mail peter@gaiaflowers.com.

Gaia artists, friends step up to support greyhound rescue

Robert Arnold's Mobile No. 9

Robert Arnold's Mobile No. 9

Starting tonight (Thursday, Oct. 6), Gaia is hosting a special event to benefit Greyhound Pet Adoption Las Vegas. A Night in the Dog House, as it’s called, was the idea of resident artist Robert Arnold, a local printmaker who also works in clay and wood, and has recently been creating mixed media mobiles and stabiles. Robert is the proud owner of four rescued greyhounds.

For October’s Preview Thursday and First Friday, proceeds from sales of all Robert’s work will be donated to GPA, which places ex-racing greyhounds into loving homes in the greater Las Vegas Valley. Gaia will also  offer product specials and hold a raffle to raise money for the nonprofit organization.

Some incredible donations have been made to support the event, including two free tickets to the South Bay Yoga Conference by Jules Mitchell, artwork by Leslie Rowland, and pottery by Kelly McClendon. Ceramist Shari Bray and jewelry designer Ashleigh Edwards have also discounted their work for the event.

Don’t miss your chance to get great deals and help the hounds! Click here for details.

Gaia cooks up end-of-summer arrangement

Gaia centerpiece at Chefs, Wine & Spirits Too

Gaia cooked up a special end-of-summer centerpiece arrangement for Roseman University of Health Science’s Chefs, Wine & Spirits Too fundraiser event, held Sept. 8 at Mandarin Oriental hotel.

The design featured miniature mums in the shape of hot dogs and hamburgers on a small grill over a “lawn” of wheat grass.

Florists were invited to enter arrangements inspired by the theme “on the wings of summer” in a design competition. Although we didn’t win, participating was a blast, and we were thrilled to know that funds raised by auctioning off our arrangement at the end of the dinner will support the college’s mobile health clinics.

Gaia gets shout-out in Noteworthy

The most recent edition of Noteworthy, news from Symphony Park and Downtown Las Vegas, included a nice shout-out to Gaia. Thanks, guys!

You can read the whole piece here, and subscribe to Noteworthy to get lots of great updates about all things Downtown here.

Mother Earth fever is catching

Occasionally, we get asked what the meaning of “Gaia” is. In ancient Greek mythology, Gaia was the personification of Mother Earth. The Gaia theory, based on James Lovelock’s original hypothesis, has to do with the interconnectedness of all things in the universe. (Read more about that here.)

Because we set out to create a more sustainable model of flower shop, Gaia seemed like a perfect name. Whenever possible (based on supply and demand), we use certified sustainably grown cut flowers, locally gathered accents and containers handmade in Las Vegas for our arrangements. We also do things like recycle all recyclable waste and compost plant and flower clippings.

It turns out we’re not alone. Just about every week, we hear about another flower shop that is thinking along the same lines. Here are a few that we’ve uncovered recently:

Dandelions Flowers and Gifts in Eugene, Ore.

Willow & Bloom in Seattle

Lily Lodge in Los Angeles

If you have friends and/or family in Eugene, Seattle and L.A., support these shops by spreading the word about them and using them for orders to be sent in their vicinities. If you know of other shops like them, in other cities, add a link to their website in the comments section below. We’ll link to them on our website.

Thanks for supporting Mother Earth!
